Peter Ellis

Managing Director and Adviser

Peter's early career was with three leading pension companies before joining Shipmans in 1998. He became a Director in 2004 and was appointed Managing Director in 2005.


"My client work is predominately providing advice to wealthy families, charities and entrepreneurs, who typically require ongoing succession planning, investment management and a comprehensive understanding of the tax system we work in and the allowances available.  The majority of my work is in conjunction with the client's accountant and legal advisers".


Peter is a Certified Financial Planner and has particular expertise in advising Family Business Enterprises.  He is co-Founder and Director of Shipman Investment Managers, a Guernsey based asset management company;  a Trustee of the Born Free Foundation and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA). When time allows, Peter enjoys travelling with his family, playing tennis and cycling.

Lucy Ernest 


Lucy has worked within financial services since 2014 and joined Shipman Financial Planning in early 2018. Previously, Lucy worked as a Personal Banking Manager within the Retail Banking sector. Having obtained her Level 4 Diploma for Financial Advisors in 2017, Lucy has progressed through multiple roles within Shipman Financial Planning, gaining exposure to all aspects of the business. Lucy was appointed a Director of Shipman Financial Planning in early 2021. As a Director, Lucy oversees the operational aspects of the business.


Paul Larcombe

Senior Financial Adviser

Paul has been in Financial Services since 2004. He has been successfully managing private client investment portfolios, retirement plans and providing solutions for inheritance tax throughout this time. Paul is happy to liaise with client solicitors and accountants to achieve an appropriate solution.


Paul holds the Chartered Insurance Institute Diploma and is currently working towards Certified and Chartered status. Paul is a keen cyclist and has completed a London to Paris cycle ride in aid of charity.


Tom Glanville

Chartered Financial Planner

Tom has many years experience, initially in banking and subsequently as an Independent Financial Planner advising personal, corporate and trustee clients on all aspects of financial planning.  His particular specialisms are Family Wealth Management, Complex Tax & Estate Planning, liasing with other professionals to maximise client outcomes and Retirement Planning (Corporate and Personal).


His advice is based on full financial planning with the emphasis on providing advice for the long term. He has recently been appointed financial planner for an internationally renowned animal charity. Tom is a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP)  a Chartered and Certified Financial Planner. 


Dominic Fletcher 

Independent Financial Adviser

Since joining Shipman Financial Planning in 2016 as a client adviser, Dominic has worked alongside our experienced adviser’s providing additional support and further enhancing our client service.


Dominic holds a BA (Hons) in Business & Marketing and has successfully completed his Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning, attaining his position as an Independent Financial Adviser. Dominic is now setting his sights on working towards achieving his Chartered status, in the very near future. 


Andy Shears 

Independent Financial Adviser

Andy has been working in the financial service industry since 2011, starting as a trainee Paraplanner. Throughout his time in the financial services industry, Andy has successfully supported a number of financial advisers in the financial planning process, from liaising with clients to research and analysis of products, with particular emphasis on investments, pensions and retirement. Andy is qualified to level 4 Diploma standard, and is continuing his studies to further his development and knowledge within financial planning.


Outside of work Andy is a keen CrossFitter and enjoys travelling and camping with his partner and two little boys.


Jan Fowler

Client Relationship Manager

Jan has worked for Shipman for the last 2 years after moving across when Hall & Partners Financial Services was taken over, she has worked in Financial Services for the last 6 years and her role for last 2 has been that of Client Relationship Manager.  Prior to that she worked for the County Council at the conference and wedding venue Dillington House in Ilminster as a Bookings Secretary.  Jan prides herself in knowing her clients and has built up an excellent rapport with them over the years that she has worked for Shipmans.


 Jan has 2 children and 4 grandchildren that keep her very busy but in her spare time is a keen member at a local gym.  She combines the gym with long walks at the weekends with her German Pointer, Ollie.


Martin Rider 


Martin has been in financial services since 2001 and joined Shipman Financial Planning Ltd in 2006.

As a Paraplanner, he has successfully supported the Managing Director in managing portfolios and providing advice to wealthy families, charities and entrepreneurs. Martin now provides paraplanning support for a number of our advisers. The majority of his work is researching advice and liaising between advisers, clients, clients' accountants and legal advisers. 


Martin has a Bsc (Hons) in Biology and obtained a Certificate in Financial Planning. He is an active member of his local church and in the past spent 6 months supporting income generation projects in Zambia.


Jenny Shaeena


Jenny joined the team in May 2019 coming in as a Para Planner, she is working alongside our knowledgeable team to progress to become a fully qualified Paraplanner within Shipman Financial Planning. Jenny is Level 3 qualified and currently working towards the Regulated Diploma in Financial Planning. She has been working in financial services industry for over 10 years taking on a number of varied roles from retail banking to roles in risk and compliance in the corporate and commercial banking sector. Jenny has a young family which keeps her extremely busy as well as re-decorating her home having recently re-located from London.


Alexandra Cheal


Alexandra joined Shipman Financial Planning as a Paraplanner in October 2020, moving from a larger Independent Financial Advisors to develop her relationships with clients and further her ability to contribute to the industry.


Having established her career in retail banking, Alex moved to a smaller IFA, before finally transferring to a much larger wealth consolidation advice firm through an acquisition. Alex has achieved her Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning, along with her certificate in Long Term Care and Pension Transfer Specialist qualifications. She continues to work towards a Chartered qualification, which she expects to achieve in 2021.


Outside the office, Alexandra enjoys the great outdoors and exploring both the Cornish coasts and the Scottish Highlands whenever she can. She is lucky enough to be a mother to two very active boys who enjoy a challenge, so she rarely has much time to spare.


Sarah Humphrey 

Financial Services Administrator

Sarah moved down from Derbyshire in 2006, and has worked in her family’s business for several years; working one to one with customers, ensuring all their needs were met. She joined Artavia Financial Planning in 2015 as an administrator, before moving to Shipman Financial Planning in February 2016 as an administrator, bringing her experience to communicate and help clients.


Katie Trevelyan

Financial Services Administrator

Katie joined Shipman Financial Planning as an Administrator in October 2017, having previously worked within both Financial Services and the Insurance Industry as a Business Development Manager in Exeter since 2011. Katie is currently studying towards a Diploma in Financial Planning.


Outside of work, Katie is a very active member of her local Young Farmers Club, having been Treasurer for her local club, taking part in a wide range of competitions from public speaking to theatrical, and most importantly, by helping to raise money for local nominated charities and supporting the local rural community.
